If you take the time to look it up on the internet, you can find tons of ready-made woodworking plans ready at your disposal. They are suitable for beginners or simply if you're the type of guy who prefers simple woodworking projects. Always remember to follow the instructions though, and make sure you are well protected while working! Always wear your gloves and goggles. There is certainly a better safety advice than to take your time while at it. Not just for the sake of staying safe, but also for gaining experience from your work and constantly learning.
Just starting out? Here's a couple of ideas that can come in handy. It's good to start simple if you're a beginner, so maybe you want to consider taking it easy for the first time and build stuff that is not too complex. Maybe a table, or even better, a bookshelf! Or maybe a sitting bench. It's up to you.
Do you have children? If so, perfect! By building something for them, you not only gain valuable experience, but also create something useful and valuable for them. Do you have a baby daughter that still plays with dolls? Then how about making her a nice doll-house for her toys? That way you may also contribute to the house looking more cleaned up and organized, if you instruct her to put them away after playing.
A friend of mine has a son who simply enjoys making small wooden vehicles, like ships, trains and airplanes. When he had his 14th birthday, I took advantage of the opportunity to learn something and present him with a gift at the same time! He received a nice wooden plane, coupled with a blueprint on how to make his own. Perhaps you could do the same.
When looking for new ideas, internet is not the only resource. You should consider going through some physical publications as well. You've been surprised how often a simple magazine can give you a ton of ideas. Or maybe combine the resources; read some local publications just for the sake of getting the idea, then continue researching it on the internet to find appropriate plans and blueprints.
Again, remember that if you do not take your time while working, you not only risk injuring yourself, but also your project might not come out as expected. This goes for simple projects too. Safety comes first no matter what. So be careful, but also creative and do not forget to have fun!
